GHG/Energy
SK Materials joined RE100 and declared to meet Net-Zero by 2030 to clarify its commitment to combatting climate change. To achieve these goals, SK Material has established a mid-to-long term GHG reduction plan, and we intend to expand the proportion of renewable energy use by the Green Premium system and the 3rd party PPA system. We also conduct employee awareness campaigns to encourage active participation of our employees in reduction of GHG emissions.
Water
SK Materials identifies and manages risks in terms of Life Cycle Assessment at all phases of water resource use: intake, use, and wastewater treatment. We consume relatively less water than other manufacturing industries; however, as water is used during most of the production process, we seek to increasethe efficiency of water consumption and wastewater recycling and minimize the environmental impact through wastewater treatment systems. In 2021, SK Materials plans to minimize water supply risk by recycling 8% of wastewater as alternative water sources in all relevant core operations.
Waste
SK Materials has established the waste management standard to manage the process from waste generation to disposal.Including the wastes generated from the resident suppliers in Yeongju-si plant area, SK Materials manages wastes under legal procedures, adopting a unified waste disposal process. We also improved the wastewater treatment system to recycle sludge generated from the wastewater treatment process, and we will continue to conduct recycling activities in all relevant core operations to minimize the environmental impact caused by waste generated during the manufacturing process.
* ZWTL : Zero Waste To Landfill, Zero Waste Landfill Certification System
Low Carbon System
SK Materials discloses information related to climate actions and ESG management results through the CDP to build trust with stakeholders and pursue carbon neutrality. We will expand the carbon footprint certification of our major products to deliver the value of low-carbon to our customers.
Pollutants & Hazardous Chemical Substances
SK Materials has set stricter internal management standards than those of the national laws to minimize the generation of water/air pollutants throughout the production process, and we will strengthen the internal standards from under 80% of the national laws to under 50% (70% for particular substances). We assess the risks of chemical substances procured and exported through the integrated chemical management system and verify compliance with legal requirements through Chemicals Management System, and preserve facilities and vehicles that handle hazardous chemical substances. We strive to prevent and minimize accident cases and its damage through Environmental Accident Response System and Safety Cooperation System with local communities.
